Digital Video Disc or Digital Versatile Disc (DVD) is an optical storage device that looks the same as a compact disc. The difference between CD and DVD is that DVD able to hold about 15 times as much information. DVD can hold 8.5 gigabytes of data and CD can only hold 700 megabytes of data. With DVD, the transfer rate data to the computer about 20 times as fast as a CD-ROM. When compared to compact disc technology, DVD allows for better graphics, better resolution, and increased storage capacity.
DVD has two formats that is the DVD-Video format and the DVD-ROM (DVD-Read Only Memory) format. The DVD-Video format played on most of DVD player and used for home movie entertainment. DVD players usually has compatible format disc and can also play Audio CD and CD-ROM formats.
The DVD-ROM stores computers data. DVD-ROM also called as digital versatile disc because it can be used is a variety of ways. DVD-ROM contains interactive games, video file storage, and photographic storage. The other type is DVD-R (DVD-Recordable) disc. DVD-R is popular on most people that use computer because it can be used to record data.
